Design Trend: Hooks

I am currently obsessed with hooks. I am seeing images everywhere and I love the look, whether it’s S-hooks hung on a tree branch or giant wooden circles on the wall. Combine practicality with style and you will get me every time.

Hooks are just so useful. We often stay in Airbnbs when we travel and as a designer, of course, I am always assessing the space, noticing what works great and what could be improved. One thing I would probably add to every space I have ever stayed in is hooks. They are practical in every room from the kitchen to the bathroom to the bedroom. And now they can be super stylish as well!

The picture above is from a corner of my bedroom. I have had this Indian piece (I don’t have a word for it–tapestry holder??) for nearly a decade. I generally arrange blankets and throws over it, but now I’ve added some rose gold S-hooks to it so I can bring plants and a bit of style to my bedroom.

If you’re  going to make hooks a part of your wall design, you don’t want to overfill them. The negative, or empty, space is as important as what’s hanging up. That is the key to creating a design element. Take a look at these gorgeous pics for a little hook inspiration.

I especially love the look of the hanging tree branch with S-hooks and also the big Muuto dot hooks. Which is your favorite?
